Take Jesus With You To The Unreached

Few weeks back, while I was in my personal prayer, God directed me to a scripture and explained to me few thoughts. It was more like an answer to a specific prayer request, but I felt the strong urge to write about it as I know that there will be many out there benefitting from the same.

For today’s devotion, I would like you to read Mark 5:1-20. There we see a demon possessed man being healed by Jesus. He crossed the lake and came to the region of Gerasenes. As soon as Jesus got out of the boat, this man came out of the tombs to meet Jesus. Bible says that this man lived in the tombs, he did not wear clothes properly. No one was strong enough to subdue him. People tried to chain him but he broke those iron chains. Day and night he would cry out and cut himself with stones.

Even though we do not see many out there in the similar condition, there are many in our society possessed with the same evil spirit. Most of them will be deprived from the society. They will prefer to stay alone….they would love the loneliness and the lifelessness seen in the tombs. They would not have a stable mind and would not behave like an ordinary person. Even in their lonely places in which they think they are fine,  they seem to be unhappy and miserable because they have lost their inner peace which God alone can provide. Far from God and other people, they lead a life bound in chains…though not physical.

See the difference when Jesus came to that place… With Jesus, love, mercy, forgiveness, redemption and deliverance came to that place. He came back to his senses, as soon as Jesus asked the evil spirit to come out of him. People saw the difference…The man who once was in the tombs…is now sitting at the feet of Jesus. The presence of Jesus changed his physical appearance too…once he was out of his mind and was not dressed..but now he is well dressed.

One thing really touched me from that scripture.  As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged to go with him. Jesus did not let him, but said, “Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.” So the man went away and began to tell in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed.

Jesus knew that this man never had a chance to be a witness in his house and his hometown. He knew that this man was never a loving husband, a caring father and a responsible son. He was always an outcast among his friends and neighbors. When you are a new creation in Christ, your first testimony and witnessing happens at the place where you never got a chance to be an example. Your purpose starts from where you lost everything. Remember this man became a great witness at his home…it did not stop there…He shared Jesus and His miracles all through out the Decapolis.

Dear reader, there are many out there possessed with ‘the many’ (legion). Will you be that boat carrying Jesus to the land of the neglected. When you bring Jesus to the unreached, you bring love, forgiveness and redemption to the lost. Will you take the courage to carry Him to the other shore in spite of the storms that rage against you. If you do that..you’ll not only save few, but may be a household,  a city or even a country.

God Bless,

Rani John
