If God Was Not On Our Side…

Our help is in the name of the LORD,  the Maker of heaven and earth.

                    Psalms 124:8

Though I have read this Psalms 124, many times in my life, today when I read it, God made me think the different aspects of His deliverance in my life and I would like to share few thoughts from the same.

The first two verses of this Psalms places a question in our life… What if God was not on our side? Have you ever thought that before?

If the LORD had not been on our side—let Israel say-if the LORD had not been on our side , when men attacked us…(Psalms 124:1-2)

What would have been our position in life, if God had not intervened in our life? If God’s love did not come in search of us, we would have still be in that horrible pit. right? We do not realize the magnitude of God’s deliverance in our lives or we often take it so granted. Today, let us just imagine a state if God was not in our lives.

IF God had just left us to our own understanding and wisdom and did not care for our everyday matters, what would have been our condition?

What if, God did not send His angels, while we were in the middle of the road, applying the breaks real hard just because a careless driver missed the red signal?

What if, God did not talk to that person to give you that position in your workplace, though there were many qualified people better than you?

What if, God did not send His servant to your midst to preach the love of God, while you had decided to quit your life?

what if, God did not give you the wisdom to act wisely to overcome the enemy?

Think about your own life, and just ask yourself this question, considering all the circumstances of life.

The verses 2-7 gives us the description of all the bad things that could have happened in our lives if God was not on our side. IF you read those verses, you will understand that a child of God is not exempted from the troubles of life. But we are not destroyed by them, instead God gives us a victory at the end of it. We see that in Psalms 34:19 too..Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.

How often do we take it so lightly? The name of the Lord has great power. Our Lord is the one who made the heavens and the earth. And that God is on our side. If He is with us, who can stand against us?

I have not written much in today’s devotion, except few questions to search your conscience. Let these questions make you think about God’s presence in your life and create a thankful heart towards Him for all the great deliverances He has done in your life.

Read Psalms 124 two or three times. Meditate the word and compare it with your life. Take a piece of paper and write down your own specific situation in life, if God was not on your side. Never take God’s deliverance granted in life. Try to understand the magnitude of His presence in our life. Remember, you did not go in search of Jesus, He, in His perfect love came in search of you. Can you imagine a life without Him?

Prayers,

Rani John

  1. No I can’t and don’t want to imagine such a thing! 🙂
He showed me this same thing once, through an insurance letter that showed how much our prescriptions should cost and then what they did cost us with insurance helping. Oh my. Where would I be without His help and all that He does daily to deliver me? Praying more and more receive His love and forgiveness, not living without Him another minute of the day!
    love,

  3. No one in his right thinking mind would imagine the consequences of a blink of the eye without Him and yet choose to live on. The unsuspected snare of satan our adversery litters our footpart in reckless spree. O! Indeed,if it had not been Lord who on our side….?
