You Are Chosen To Inherit The Promise

Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.

                        Joshua 1:6

The other day, I was reading from the book of Joshua chapter 1 and came across the above key verse which made me ponder about God’s faithfulness for many days. I thought about all the wonderful opportunities I had as a young child to hear the word of God. My grandfather was a very spiritual person and had a great zeal for the word of God. Back in those days, he took all the opportunity to spread the word of God…He used to arrange big meetings, gather people from different areas to share the Gospel and used all his available resources to be a great witness for Christ. When he went out in the morning, he will ask us to learn a chapter from the bible that day and used to ask us about it at the end of the day.

He suffered from cancer and even in his deathbed, I have never heard him mention even once how terrible and painful it was to go through the after effects of that disease. Even while vomiting blood, he will pray for us, bless us and also make us read the Bible so that he will not have one minute without listening to the WORD. I’m sure that when my grandfather first chose to follow this Jesus, He might have promised a wonderful inheritance and generations later his children and his grandchildren are enjoying this promise and with tears in my eyes, I can say that I got the privilege to share or divide this word of God with hundreds of people everyday….Something that my Grandfather would have been so proud of..Isaiah 59:21 says "As for me, this is my covenant with them," says the LORD. "My Spirit, who is on you, and my words that I have put in your mouth will not depart from your mouth, or from the mouths of your children, or from the mouths of their descendants from this time on and forever," says the LORD.

God called Abraham out of his hometown and asked him to go the place whom God is going to show him. When he came to Canaan, he promised Abraham that this land will be given to his descendents as an inheritance(Genesis 12:6,7). Generations passed and the ancestors who received this promise passed away…even after several years of bondage in Egypt..God never forgot His promise He made to Abraham. He used Moses to lead His people out of slavery into this promised land. Forty years they wandered in the wilderness and Moses who led them this far also passed away. But when it came to Joshua’s time, God chose him to be the one to not only receive the promise , but divide the land to God’s people which He had promised their ancestors years back. What a great privilege! Not only that he got to receive the promise which they have waited for long, but also to be a main part of it….to divide the promised land among God’s people…Something which Abraham could not see and Moses could not experience.

Dear child of God, in your generation God has chosen you to receive many of the promises which God has promised our forefathers. Some of us are given key roles in our lifetimes..Our forefathers might have been called out to serve God just like Abraham…God might have used many leaders like Moses in our parents’ lives to lead us out of bondage to the promised land. This journey is in His master plan and has been His only purpose for many years…to lead you to the promised land. He doesn’t want you to wander in the wilderness anymore….God has called you to receive the promise as well as divide it among many others. He wants to be with you just like He was with Abraham and Moses. Your ancestors..they all did their part…now its your time to do what you are called to do. Today, what is hindering you from receiving that promise? There might be some reason in our lives that make us wander in that wilderness again and again…Ask God to reveal that today and be strong and courageous like Joshua…because God has chosen you to receive the promised land and divide it among your people.

  1. Great post Rani! 🙂 I think of myself, rather isolated and not able to get out much. But then God brings blogging to us and the ability to share His word and divide it among many. 🙂 What an awesome God of promise we have! Thank you and God bless all the promises that are yours to possess!

  2. Thanks for sharing the testimony of your grandfather…I am thankful to our grand parents for their prayers..Yes now it is our turn to stand up for Jesus.

  3. May God give us all the grace to be like Caleb and Joshua in the Promised Land, trusting Him. Blessings Rani!
