If You Believe…You Will See The Glory Of God

Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.Yet when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days.

          John 11:5-6

We know that God listens, when our prayers are answered. He hears every single prayer that goes out of our mouth. But, have you experienced a silence from God? Sometimes, we have to face certain unfavorable incidents in life which will make us think whether God is seeing us at all. Does that mean He has stopped working for us? His silence in that worst situation means that heaven is at work for you whether you can experience it or not.

Something similar happened in Lazarus’s house. He was sick and his sisters Mary and Martha sent a word to Jesus. Jesus loved Martha, Mary and Lazarus so much, yet when he learned that he was sick, instead of visiting him at once, stayed where he was for two more days. In that wait of 2 days, the worst thing happened at their house. Lazarus died. He was laid in the tomb for four days and Jesus was not there till then. Why didn’t Jesus do anything, when disaster came upon their house? Why was He silent when He was most needed? Jesus very well knew what He was about to do. But his loved ones were unaware of it.

When finally Jesus came to their house, Martha ran to meet him and said “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” I would like to draw your attention to Martha’s faith. She knew that if Jesus were with them before the worst happened, He could have saved her brother from death. But that faith had a limit…and that limit is only till the graveyard. Beyond that, she did not have the vision to put her faith into action. When Jesus promised that her brother will live, she believed that, but not as a immediate miracle. She knew everything about resurrection that happens on the last day, yet did not believe that Jesus could do anything for her that day. When Jesus asked to move the stone, she spoke the impossibilities of that miracle according to her views..”Lord, by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days”. In spite of her unbelief, did Jesus do a miracle for her? Yes, of course. God delayed for that one purpose…To believe and see the glory of God…not only for Martha, but for his disciples and for many others who have gathered there.

Are you facing a situation in life where you do not see Jesus with you? Do you see Him silent, not acting in favor of you? Do you say in your heart, “Lord if you were here, this would not have happened to me”. Do not worry. God has a purpose behind His silence or delay. Sometimes God’s silence is to bring forth a new faith in you which is not only a theoretical knowledge of God , but also a practical experience of Him. You might know that He is a miracle working God and a deliverer from the Bible you read, but the trust in God becomes a part in you, only when you experience that miracle by yourself. Till then, the impossibilities of that situation will prevent you from believing Him completely. God’s silence also shows His trust in you.

“When you cannot hear God,” says Oswald Chambers in My Utmost For His Highest, “you will find that He has trusted you in the most intimate way possible—with absolute silence, not a silence of despair, but one of pleasure, because He saw that you could withstand an even bigger revelation.”

Remove the stones that prevent you from seeing the glory of God. Your situation may be stinking and rotten… Cannot be exposed to the world..dead for many years. But if the Master asks you to remove the stone, He is going to do a miracle for you. He is going to bring forth life into that situation. Many are going to see it. God may be silent right now, but He will not remain that way for ever. He is working in favor for you…He is preparing you for a greater revelation….to see the glory of God. But for that, He will not move the stone for you…it is your responsibility to roll the stone away and give the opportunity for the miracle to happen. What is that preventing you from trusting God completely? Is that your aged and rotten problems of life? Remember, Jesus just called out Lazarus’ name to bring him back to life. He doesn’t have to do much to cure your situation. Just a word from His mouth can do that miracle for you. But that word came out of His mouth after the stone was removed. So today, take the decision to trust God beyond your situation. There is a purpose for His delay…I believe that Jesus was more concerned about Martha’s faith than Lazarus life. For bringing back, Lazarus to life, He just said a word, but for Martha to receive that faith, she had to go through that terrible time of her brother’s sickness, death, funeral, long wait of four days and finally her Master’s arrival. So to bring forth the faith that God expects in us, we may have to go through delays, trials of life and unexpected incidents…and finally when we have reached that place, the solution to our problems is just a word away. So remove the stones today.
