God’s Purpose Of Enlargement

God sets the solitary in families; He brings out those who are bound into prosperity; But the rebellious dwell in a dry land.

             Psalms 68:5

Few days back, as I was going through the above Psalm, this verse caught my attention. These days, I have noticed one interesting thing that some of the verses just remain in my heart without me taking the efforts to by heart it. When they remain that way, I know that there are reasons behind it. The above key verse was such a verse which stayed in my heart and I knew that God will definitely speak to me through it.

The more I read the above verse, the more I realized about a God who understands the condition of our current life. Our God is always concerned about our states of life. He always look forward to bring us to a state of enlargement…a state of better life….a state of meaningfulness. But most of the time, we, in our limited vision do not understand the plans of God and try to rebel against His will and end up dwelling in the dry or parched land.

What better example do we need other than the Israelites? In Exodus 3, we read about God appearing to Moses in that burning bush and explaining His plan to Moses regarding the deliverance of His people. In verse 8 we read, So I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites.

God could not stand the oppression of His people and and the bondage they are going through. So He came down with His blue print of deliverance. He planned everything in advance and even prepared the great man , Moses for this master plan. God’s purpose was to lead the Israelites to a place of enlargement…from the place of bondage to a place of a place of abundance. Yet they rebelled. And a journey which could have lasted just few days prolonged for long forty years in the wilderness.

My dear child of God, we serve a God who understands our current situation. In the above key verse we read that God leads the lonely to families and the prisoners to prosperity. He knows what we lack and what we need the most. He is a God who makes provision for our enlargement. Yet, it is our responsibility to recheck our lives to find out whether our current condition; a state of dry land is due to our own rebellion. A rebellion to heed to God’s will…a rebellion which let you hold onto what you think is best…a rebellion which prevents you to simply trust in God…a rebellion which says “Its my life, I am still in control”. God’s purpose is to lead you to a land of flowing…a land of abundance…The more we rebel, the more we will wander in this dry land holding the promise of Canaan, yet not receiving it. So together, let us examine our lives and see whether there are any dry areas in our lives due to rebellion and then submit them to God’s sovereign will so that His purpose of enlargement may be established in those areas of our lives.

God Bless,

Rani John

  1. I love this Rani, and needed it too. When I rebel, even in thought, the place I am becomes dry and not enough. When I acknowledge and trust, there is plenty of His goodness to move me along to more of Him. 🙂 love you! Thank you! God bless you! deb

  2. Rani, I love this line in your post: “The more we rebel, the more we will wander in this dry land holding the promise of Canaan, yet not receiving it.” The promises of God don’t cease to exist because we rebel. He keeps them ready for the right time to deliver them, when we are finally ready to accept His unsurpassing will for our lives. Peace, Linda

  3. Rani,
As usual my sister you have nailed it on the head. The secret to God’s blessing is simply put, obedience, rather than rebellion. The spiritual desert we walk in many times can be avoided by simply following His will rather than trying to “run” your own life. Thanks for this message. God Bless
