Expect A Great Catch

Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

               1 Corinthians 15:58

I do not remember whether I have mentioned this exact same thought before, but since I could not ignore the compelling spirit within me, I’m writing the same. I believe that even though we have heard the same scripture again and again, when Holy Spirit reveals something special…just a word might be enough for a person to be encouraged or uplifted.

Today, I was reading from the book of Luke and I came across the scripture where Jesus was preaching to the multitude. He saw two boats on the shore and the fishermen were washing their net after that day’s labor. Jesus came to Simon and asked him to put the boat out , a little from the shore. We read that Jesus used his boat to preach the word to the people. After His work was done, Jesus asked one more thing to Simon, “Put out your boat into the deep water and let down your nets for a great catch”

Two phrases from the above scripture (Luke 5:1-6) touched my heart. “Put out your boat a little from the shore” and “Put out your boat into the deep waters”. Before explaining the two sentences, let me explain the context a little bit. Simon and his friends have labored all night and was without any catch. They have worked in vain, tired after fighting against the deep waves and roaring seas. The efforts were worth it if at least they had a reasonable catch…but that day was not at all favorable for them. After a day’s toil and burdened heart, Simon and his friends are washing the net. They just cant wait to go home and take rest. But here comes Jesus with a great multitude. Simon has never heard this man before, but somehow His face reflected a glory which he could not ignore. Though Simon was tired and troubled, he could not resist Jesus’ request.

Now remember, if Simon has to put his boat a little further from the shore, he cannot go home. He has to stay there until Jesus finishes His teachings. And how long this is going to take , Simon does not know. His body felt so weak and tired, yet he agreed to do that for Jesus….to give his boat as a stage for Jesus to share His holy words. After Jesus finished his work on the shore, HE immediately turned back to Simon and addressed his need. Now that Simon has allowed Jesus to use his boat by putting it out a little from the shore, Jesus is ready to bless him in return…by putting the same boat deep into the waters for a great catch.

My dear child of God, if you have given your time, your talents, your efforts for His work…if you have done something for Jesus without considering your current circumstances…then  He will make sure that you will be blessed in that same area where you have been grieving or troubled. He will make sure that the same boat which was empty sometime back will be filled with a great catch…if you are willing to give the same boat for Him.

Are you ready to share your boat and take your boat a little further from the shore…from your comfort zones and be a stage for Jesus. If you have done that, then do not be discouraged thinking that there is no one to see what you lack…Jesus who has used you for His kingdom will reward you with a great catch,  a reward  that you have never experienced before at a least expected time will be yours. Dear friend, if you have put out your boat from the shore for Jesus, be ready to put your boat deep into the sea for a great catch.

God Bless,

Rani John
