In Trials For A Reason

To loose the bonds of wickedness, To undo the heavy burdens, To let the oppressed go free, And that you break every yoke?

         Isaiah 58:6

I do not know about you, but I have thought several times, that being a believer, why should people go through so much of difficulties in life. Some may go through sickness, some through financial struggle and some through family problems..Wherever  you turn to, you see a child of God going through some trial while a non-believer lives his life without much of it. In my earlier years of faith, when I see people suffer, I used to ask God, “Lord, if you knew that he/she is going to go through something like this…why didn’t you take her out of that situation and put her in a better place?”. Now, going through many troubles in life myself, I understand that these better places are achieved only if we go through those difficult ones. Do you agree with me today?

And through today’s devotion, I would like to confirm on the above, if anyone still has doubts about it. In the book of Acts 16:22-40, we read that Paul and Silas were put into jail. They were attacked by the public and the magistrates ordered them to be stripped and beaten and thrown into the prison. The Jailer upon receiving strict orders, fastened them in chains and threw them into the inner cells. We know the rest of the story..At midnight, they started singing and praising God and the heaven came down to rescue them..An earthquake shook the foundations of the prison, the doors were opened and all the prisoners were loosened. Seeing all this and thinking that the prisoners are all gone, the jailer took the sword to kill himself. But later when he found out that they were all safe inside the prison, his eyes were opened and asked, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" That day itself, the jailer and his family were saved and baptized.

Reading this, a thought came into my mind. God could have done something to escape Paul and Silas from the crowd and completely avoid the prison experience and the torture. We would not have seen that chapter 16 from verses 22-40 , if He placed Paul and Silas directly into the house of Lydia(verse 40), without them passing through the prison experience. But because of their prison, we understand that the jailer and his household was saved..the other prisoners were loosened and I’m sure they all might have been saved too.

Sometimes, you and me are thrown into that prison like experience, bound in pain and suffering for a reason. Do you think that Heaven had to do those extra ordinary effects to save just those two disciples? Remember, there was another incident  where an angel appeared and delivered Paul from the prison without anybody else knowing about it. Don’t forget that the heaven were opened to save the rest of the prisoners and the jailer with his household through Paul and Silas’s  deliverance.

You are there, within that four walls of confinement, not because heaven could not do anything to save you from that situation. If you are a child of God and if you obey God, He has a purpose for your current place. This place of darkness, pain and suffering is not an end…but the beginning of a new miracle. This is not a place where Satan is going to see you destroyed..but it is a place where he is going to see you used by God and delivered by heaven’s intervention. You are in chains..so that God can release few others in chain too..You are brought to that place because God wanted to save few others from that place and put them in a better place along with you.

Did you notice one thing..Paul and Silas did not have to preach much for the Jailer to raise the question, “What must I do to be saved?”. He just saw what happened in the jail and how the disciples of Jesus reacted to the Jailer made him believe that there is something extraordinarily special about these two…and that was enough for him to realize that he needs to be saved. Sometimes, we do not have to preach much, to attract others to Christ..Their experience was more than enough, their attitudes revealed who Jesus was… In that trial of yours, you might not have enough words to say that “Jesus is your Lord”, but let me assure you…that your testimony is more than enough for others to see the Christ in you.

In Him,

Rani John

  5. Paul & Silas Sang & Praised God in the darkest moment of their life, on shackles, in agony while bleeding, no hope (no Lights) ahead of them.

Prayer & Praise (worship) brings Power (power of God) and manifests before others. The work of God starts there in lives and in the lands.

Our trials has an unseen result. God’s name be glorified, magnified and manifested throug us.

    Rani, great insight….

    • Thank you for the insight…Yes..praise and prayer brings power of God in us…And one day God is going to reveal the reason behind all the trials that we have been through…He is going to show us all the people that we have touched

Thank you once again Dr. Isaac
      God Bless,
      Rani John
