Can These Dry Bones Live?

The hand of the LORD came upon me and brought me out in the Spirit of the LORD, and set me down in the midst of the valley; and it was full of bones. Then He caused me to pass by them all around, and behold, there were very many in the open valley; and indeed they were very dry. And He said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” So I answered, “O Lord GOD, You know.”

        Ezekiel 37:1-3

This chapter of Ezekiel was a re-confirmation of God’s promise in my life. For today’s devotion, I would like you to read Ezekiel 37, verses 1-9. We see that the Lord takes the prophet to a valley full of dry bones. God forces him to walk around and see the dryness in that valley. There were many bones and they were all extremely dry. It might have been a place of hopelessness…a place of numbness. According to our natural thinking, these bones have no chances of life in them, but Ezekiel knew that God could do anything with them. God asked him to prophecy against those dry bones and speak the word of God into that deadness state and he saw an amazing sight of dry bones coming together…sinews and flesh came upon them and skin covered the flesh. There was no breath in them and when he prophesied the life-giving word of God, breath came upon them and they lived standing on their feet. And the most amazing thing that happened was that few minutes back, if the prophet saw a large number of dead bones, after the word of God were spoken, they became a great army of people.

Dear child of God, do you have any dry bones in your life? Do you have dry bones in your married life and in your job? Do you experience that dryness in your spiritual life?  Are you feeling that dryness in your relationship with Jesus? Most of the time, the problems that we go through and the repeated failures of life can take away the moisture from us. Sometimes, delayed answers for our prayers can drain the moisture of faith and hope in God. And I’m sure that all of us, at one point or the other have gone through a similar situation. What do we do when we are there in that valley of dry bones? Just like Ezekiel, we need to prophecy the word of God to that dryness of ours. Otherwise, in that valley, you will hear the echo of the deceiver; satan. The devil will make the dry bones to rattle and speak to you..”Oh.. this situation of yours …it is not going to work…you do not have any more chances…it is all done and over….there is no future for you..”. Beware of him. He is a liar, but he tries his best to put you down in your faith and doubt God’s promise for you.

The word of God has great power. God created everything in this universe with just the words of His mouth. And remember, He created everything from nothing. It is the same word of God that has promised you a blessing. So it has great power. You might see your situation not so favourable for the fulfillment of that promise. You might see dry bones everywhere..But prophecy and speak the word of God to that dryness of yours. What is that you longed to see in that place of your dryness? If you are sure that what you desire is according to the will of God, then in faith, prophecy to those dry bones..Speak the word of God. Slowly you will hear a rumble…bones coming together..sinews and flesh coming on those bones…skin forming on that flesh and finally you will see them breathe and live in front of your very eyes.

Now you might say, “I do not feel that this is going to work”. This is the time to put your faith in action. You may not have anything to make it work..but God has. And He is living in you. He has given you that resurrection power…the same power that resurrected Jesus from the grave. That valley of dry bones is the place of great miracle. Do you hear the whisper of your promises rattling..waiting to hear from you so that they could be fulfilled? Go has given you the word..It is your responsibility to prophecy to it. Your faith will increase when you hear the word spoken. So go to your prayer room and speak it loud. Quote the scriptures and prophecy to that deadness of yours.

Talk to your shattered dreams, speak to your unfulfilled promises, prophecy to your hopeless future. Let the Holy Spirit power breathe in you. Let all the dryness of your spirit and body be touched by the life-giving power of the Word. Let everything that was separate and not in form come back together. Let everything that was lacking in that relationship come back to life…let the sinews and flesh join the bones..Let the presence of God cover your situation just like the skin covers your body. I see in faith, life coming to you…in your sickness, in your barrenness, in your future, in your relationships, in your spiritual life…I see a valley full of a great army instead of dry bones. Exercise that power of the Word. After all, We believe in a God who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did.(Romans 4:18)
