Hope In The Lord And Renew Your Strength

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

                Isaiah 40:29-31
Few months back, I had written a thought on eagles and how it is related to a christian life.(Learning to fly like an eagle posted on September 24th) Reading that post, a valuable reader asked me to write more about the facts related to eagles so that we all can understand why eagle is mentioned so many times in the bible and why a christian is compared to an eagle. In response to that request and to the guidance of the holy spirit, I would like to describe few other attributes of Eagles and the spiritual lessons they teach us.

One of the interesting thing that you notice in eagles is that they fly very high and they do not fly in flocks. They have something majestic in their style of flying and in its nature. Though born in a bird family, it cannot be compared to any other birds. Something is extraordinary about them. That should be the same with a christian. Though similar to others, we should have something extraordinary that makes us different from others. Some characteristics that our master likes should make us beyond comparable to others. I believe that everyday when you grow and mature to be more like christ in your behaviour and ways of life, you become different from others. And that makes you fly high, above normal and be different for christ.

Another amazing thing about eagles is that they love storms. Have you seen any other bird out in the sky when it is clouded and dark? But eagles get excited and they soar in the sky happily during the storms. They look for the direction of the wind and fly accordingly using the pressure of the wind to soar up high. When the eagle is in the heart of the storm, it just stops fluttering its wings and glides in the storm. I wish I had the courage to do so. Many times, in storms, I run to hide and be safe from the storm. But the storms of life gives us the strength to rise up high. If you and me take the courage to find the wind and take its pressure to uplift us spiritually, then God will help us to glide in the storm peacefully, resting ourselves in His mighty hand.

I’m not a bird watcher or a person who studies about different kinds of birds. These facts are all received from the internet. One another important fact about eagles is that they renew their strength and rejuvenate in the middle of their lifetime. But there are many who say that this is not true and it is just an old wives’ tale. I’m not here to justify my point. But I believe that if the Bible has mentioned about the eagles and how they renew their strength, then there should be something behind this fact. It is just amazing to know how eagles renew their strength. All eagles go through this period at least once in their lifetime. Usually that happens in the middle of their life. As the eagles grow, their claws weaken and their beak grow long and curved. It loses its strength to kill its prey. The feathers turn thick and heavy making them difficult to fly. Now the eagle has to take a bold decision. Either die in its current state or go through a painful transformation. When it makes the second decision, it will fly to a rocky place very high and beat itself on the rocks till its beak comes off. They will wait patiently for their new beak to grow and once it is grown, it will use the new beak to pull out its nails and they will take out its feathers too and wait long months for its renewal. Once this state is survived, it will renew its strength and will fly again as a young eagle.

IF that is true, how is it related to a christian’s life? We grow weary and weak as we move forward in life. The obstacles and challenges of life make us difficult to soar up high. If we take a decision to continue with our current state, then we lose the purpose of our life, the heights we are supposed to reach and the victories that are to be won. Though painful, if we decide to take the choice of renewing our strength, God will rise us up to greater heights than we can ever imagine. It is painful to get rid of habits and traditions that were once a part of you. But if that is a hindrance in reaching to the heights that make you more closer to God, then why keep them. The challenges of the past and the pains and hurts of the current life may weigh you down. Take a decision to get rid of them and wait for God to renew and transform you to a new being, renewed in strength, in hope, in faith. Because for a christian, it is God who gives strength to the weary and increase the power of the weak.  Just hope in the Lord.

In Him,

Rani John
