Nothing Can Seperate Me From This Love

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

           Romans 8:38-39
I heard this verse in church on Sunday and it kept coming to my mind the whole day. What a beautiful verse! Though I had read this verse many times, today I felt like by-hearting it so that I can enjoy it every time I’m discouraged. Love is something that can cheer a person no matter what age he or she is in. If my daughter is upset and angry with me for something, a little tickling and hugging is more than enough to melt her. It is the same with our partner, a little pat on the shoulder or an encouraging word is enough to change the tension in the atmosphere. But what we see many times is that people do fail and forget that a little effort will make the other person’s day. This particular verse shows us a love that will never fail. Nothing can separate us from this love.

Let us take some time to understand this love. When Paul tries to explain this verse, he uses extremities to show the depth of Christ love. So it gives us the picture that both extremes and everything in between will not separate us from His love. With that said, we do not have any excuse to say that I’m not loved. Nothing or no one in this world can love you like Christ.

Death or life

These are the two extremes that we cherish and fear the most. We love life and are scared of death. When all this earthly relationships end at the grave, it is only God’s love that holds your hand even after that death.

Angles, principalities or power

Paul says that no angelic powers or demonic powers can separate us from this great love. Though devil tries to bring all kind of miseries in your life and you fear his power, God’s love will come in search of you and uphold you in His hands.

Things present or things to come

Thats my favourite phrase in that verse. This phrase do not give us an excuse to say “Oh I’m sick and bed ridden, I do not see God’s love in this sick-bed”. You cannot say, “I’m currently going through some terrible time in life and I think God has forgotten me”. You cannot make any excuse saying “I do not see anything good in my future and so I will not serve this Lord”. Paul says, nothing in our present and future is going to separate us from the love of Christ. Your circumstances at present does not matter to Jesus. He loves you just the way you are. The other day, someone told me that she came across a drunkard on the streets and happened to give a tract and told him that “Jesus loves you even in this drunken stage of yours”. She also added that the person had a twinkle in his eyes and a smile on his face when she said that. Nobody might have told him that Jesus loves him in his terrible state. God’s love reaches you no matter what.

Height or depth

What an impressive narration!. We can go to the highest place possible and also travel to the deepest spots imaginable, or we may go anywhere in between. No matter where you are, you cannot escape the love of God. By any chance, nobody can limit God’s love…It is beyond any human limitations. There is another verse in the bible which shows the depth of God’s love. Psalms 139:8 says ” If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there”.

Any other created thing

That includes the human race or any other created thing. Nothing created, your material blessings, your partner, parents, children or any other relationships of this world can prevent God from loving you.

From all this description, we understood the depth of God’s love towards us. In love, 2 people are involved right? If that is the case, how is our love towards Jesus. All these descriptions matters in our love towards Him. Satan knows very well that he cannot influence Jesus and stop His love towards you . So he plans tricks on you. He brings death of your loved ones to discourage you in your walk with Jesus. He creates unfavourable circumstances around you to fail you in loving Christ. Satan plays with your future and makes you believe that God doesn’t love you.

Another important thing that I have noticed is that, some people will take some relationships more important and you love them more than God. In such cases you cannot see any other love more than this current love you are experiencing. In some other people, you come across people who do not love you in return and you forget what exactly love is. In such people, all they see is hurt and brokenness and they cannot think that they are worthy to be loved. In both cases, let your eyes be fixed on the ultimate love of life. Let not be deceived by satan and fall short from your love towards your Saviour. Remember, there is no other love that will die for you and save you from that terrible pit. Let this verse encourage you and comfort you when you think that you are not loved enough.

In love with my saviour,

Rani John
