Focus On Your Vision And Move Forward

Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the desert and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. So Moses thought, “I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up.”

              Exodus 3:1-3

Today, the whole day I was meditating on another passage from the Bible and by the time I was about to write the devotion, my attention changed to a completely different passage which talked about Moses and the burning bush. In my heart, I feel the urge to write down from the new thought God has given me as I think that Holy spirit wants to speak to someone through this devotion.

To understand the context more clearly, I would request you to read Exodus chapter 3 and 4. Moses from his childhood knew that he had to do something for the deliverance of the Israelites from their bondage. When he tried to use his own power in that mission, he made a mistake and killed an Egyptian and as a result fled from Egypt and lived in Midian. There he led his father-in-law’s flock for 40 years. When it was the right time, God decided to appear to Him in a burning bush. That vision changed his life completely.

Notice that Moses led the flock from the desert and moved to the mountain of God, Horeb. There the angel of the Lord appeared to Moses in a burning bush. It is the same in our lives too. When we are in the wilderness, we do not see the vision of God in our lives. But when we decide to move from the desert to the mountain of God, there you see the promise of God. Mountain of God is nothing but the place where you spent time with God. There might be many desert experiences in life, but we can be happy if we have a mountain of God to run to and be comforted. The vision that he saw at that mountain brought a number of changes in Moses’s life and today’s devotion talks about how God’s promise and his vision can bring changes in our lives too.

When Moses saw this vision of the burning bush, he was curious about it at first and was attracted towards that burning bush.

Moses heard the voice of God

While Moses was in Egypt trying to help out the Israelites, he did not hear this voice of God, even though he had the same desire as God, the deliverance of the Israelites. IT was not the right time and if God had to use Moses, he had to be trained for that important and difficult task. Seeing the vision helped him hear the voice of God. When God gives us a vision or a promise in our life, it is at that time, we hear the voice of God or the guidance of God in our lives. Going towards that vision and focusing on that promise makes us closer to God.

Moses realised who he is and who God is

When Moses came closer to the bush, he heard God speaking about his condition and how holy God is. God asked him to remove his sandals as the place he was standing was holy ground. God introduced to Moses who He is and Moses was scared to look at God and so he hid his face. When God gives us a vision in life, we should also have the same effects. We should realise the characteristics of God and also understand our current state of unholiness. When you obey God’s commandments, He will lead us to the next step in His vision.

Moses is given the mission of his life

Even though this was his heart’s desire, at that mountain of Horeb, God himself appointed Moses as the leader to deliver His people from bondage. To receive an appointment from God is far better than taking the job yourself. Because God knows the best time for your task and also prepares you well in advance though you may not realise it. Your purpose in life may be a difficult task, but when God thinks you are the best for that job, then nothing can stop you from doing it.

There are three more points to be described which I think I will continue tomorrow. Remember, for a child of God, there is a place called the mountain of God where you have close communion with God. There He will give you visions. Focusing on that vision will bring you closer to God. When your heart and mind is concentrated on the will of God, you will be able to hear Him speak to you. At first, God might tell you, your present condition and reveal to you His holy presence. When you show obedience to His commandments, He will also reveal to you His mighty plans about you. So today, if you are wandering in the wilderness, walk to the mountain of God and expect to see God’s burning bush waiting for you.

Blessings,

Rani John
