Two weeks back, during the Sunday worship, our pastor casually mentioned about a verse in his message and the words of that verse struck me so strong that even today when I thought of writing something else. those words came to my mind.
For today’s devotion, I would like to share with you a thought from that verse. Colossians 2:14 says, “Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;…”
This verse talks about how by the death of Jesus, the ceremonial laws were nailed to the cross. The Mosaic laws were never in favor of men. They always reminded them of their sin and every year forced them to sacrifice for their sins by offering a bull or a lamb. They reminded them that men are in need of atonement through the shedding of blood. By the death of Jesus, the lamb of God, these ordinances that were written against us, were taken away from our path completely and Jesus nailed it on the cross so that we can live a life of freedom in Him.
While meditating this verse, I thought…”Why is it so specifically written about the “handwriting of ordinance”? Its more like a court language. When accusations are made orally.. it doe not have much of a significance on both the parties involved. But when the ordinance is written in black and white..we know its serious. We know its a proof. You cannot go against it unless you prove otherwise.
Satan often bring allegations against a child of God. He brings it in black and white. He plots his evil plans…plans to destroy and not to prosper. He thinks of ways to weaken your faith, he brings situations to doubt God. Thus he writes ordinances against us.
But do you know how those ordinances go void or invalid? Jesus’ blood acts like a blotting paper. It absorbs the ink completely. Now what you see is just the plain paper, because his blood has washed it away. You and me are free from satan’s offenses because those ordinances are nailed on that cross. We are free of guilt because he paid it all and served the sentence for us. He served the allegations for us completely.
Today, are you aware of what Jesus has done for you? Or are you still burdened by the accusations of the devil? The day you believed in Jesus and his death on that cross…you are set free. The price is already paid and if you still think that you are bound…satan is deceiving you. All your accusations are nailed on that cross. All the inheritances through the cross is your…His joy, peace, healing, salvation, eternity, freedom in Christ…everything is yours. Enjoy it today.
